Alamo City All-Stars | New Website

In December 2018, I launched the re-designed website of Alamo City All-Stars. They are a Youth Basketball & Volleyball Facility located in Universal City, Texas.

The Challenge

The old website’s design was dated and the information architecture was no longer a good fit. Deeply nested pages were hard to find and the sign-up and payment process was cumbersome.

The old website. A bit messy.

Our Approach

Rethinking the Visual Identity

First, the graphics and user experience designer, Sarah Kowalis, rethought Alamo City All-Stars’ visual identity and site infrastructure.

Reorganizing the Interface

We removed the overwhelming menu bar and replaced it with 5 primary navigation items. This was done based on an analysis of the different user groups and their various priorities. Nothing was left to chance, which is unfortunately how many websites are built these days.

Improvements:

  • Transition from simple HTTP to HTTPS (SSL)
  • Migration to cloud-powered hosting technology for optimal performance
  • Easy to use control panel with individualized accounts based on permission level
  • Ability to add and edit content without the help of a webmaster
  • Mobile friendly with fast loading speed
  • Integration with Facebook Events (all their events are now managed by their Facebook business page)
  • Multiple custom intake forms with custom notification settings, control panel reporting, and archiving feature
  • Improved custom payment experience built on top of Paypal (middleman has been removed to save cost)
